This episode features our show’s very first formal guest, Dr. Mark Williams, a internationally recognized professor of cognitive neuroscience. Joining us virtually from Sydney, Australia, Dr. Williams has over 25 years of experience conducting behavioral and brain imaging research focusing on our social skills. He has taught the fundamentals of neuroscience to a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as publishing more than 70 scientific articles. Mark has been awarded numerous high profile fellowships and grants, and worked both at MIT in the USA and at top universities in Australia. Mark has studied brain plasticity, attention disorders, autism, dementia and eating disorders. He has been at the cutting edge of developing computational brain imaging analysis and the adoption of new technologies like virtual reality in research. He now runs programs for schools and businesses on the neuroscience of learning, the neuroscience of emotions and the impact of modern technologies (like smartphones) on our brains.

In this episode, we discuss early childhood education, how humans learn, the impacts of technology on our brains and how our experiences shape the way we see ourselves and others.

We also covered topics including:

  • Neuroplasticity and how our brains constantly changes
  • Educational theories and approaches including how to provide children with a diverse set of experiences
  • Digital learning vs non-digital learning and interaction
  • Digital devices and their impact on our brains
  • Exciting technological developments that may positively impact society

I enjoyed every second of this interview and learned a lot about how our brains work and why many of us think and act the way we do. I hope you enjoy the first of many interviews I will be conducting with some of the smartest people we can find to discuss the most important topics of our time as we ask the best questions possible to gain insight and knowledge. I also invite you to learn more about Dr. Mark Williams and his work:
